Governmental Internet Resources
- Agricola
- (AGRICultural OnLine Access) is a machine-readable database of bibliographic records created by
the National Agricultural Library and its cooperators. Production of these records
in electronic form began in 1970, but the database covers materials dating from
the 16th century to the present. The records describe publications and resources
encompassing all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines, including plant
and animal sciences, forestry, entomology, soil and water resources, agricultural
economics, agricultural engineering, agricultural products, alternative farming
practices, and food and nutrition. Auxiliary subjects that support NAL's
Information Center activities, such as agricultural trade and marketing, rural
information, and animal welfare, are also included. AGRICOLA does not contain the
materials themselves; but it can help you identify and find them, and you can
search AGRICOLA via the World Wide Web. (For information on how to get NAL

- Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
- The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) is a
government-wide compendium of Federal programs, projects, services, and activities
which provide assistance or benefits to the American public. It contains financial
and nonfinancial assistance programs administered by departments and
establishments of the Federal government.
- Census 2000
- The 2000 Census is planned to be compiled in electronic format exclusively. This site is where
much of the 2000 Census will be loaded.

- This is brief analysis of foreign countries by the CIA
- County Business Patterns
- County Business Patterns is an annual series providing economic
profile of counties, states, and the United States. Data include employment,
payroll, and number of establishments by industry.
- Department of Energy Information Bridge
- DOE is pleased to offer the American Public this new web
tool through GPO Access, a service of the Government Printing Office (GPO). The
DOE Information Bridge, a component of DOEs EnergyFiles, provides free,
convenient, and quick access to full-text DOE research and development reports in
physics, chemistry, materials, biology, environmental sciences, energy
technologies, engineering, computer and information science, renewable energy, and
other topics.

- FedStats (U.S. Statistical Sources)
- More than 70 agencies in the United States Federal Government produce statistics
of interest to the public. The Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy
maintains this site to provide easy access to the full range of statistics and

- National Archives Information Locator (NAIL)
- NAIL is a searchable database that contains information about a
wide variety of NARA's holdings across the country. You can use NAIL to search
descriptions for key words or topics, and then to retrieve digital copies of
selected textual documents, photographs, maps, and sound
recordings.
- NCJRS Abstract Database
- The National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts Database
contains summaries of more than 140,000 publications on criminal justice,
including Federal, state, and local government reports, books, research reports,
journal articles, and unpublished research. Subject areas include corrections,
courts, drugs and crime, law enforcement, juvenile justice, crime statistics, and
victims of crime. The time period covered is from the early 1970's to the present.
The Database is also available on CD-ROM and as a file on the DIALOG
service.

- This resource includes information on corrections, courts, crime prevention,
criminal justice stistics, drugs and crime, international criminal justice,
juvenile justice, law enforcement, research and evaluation, and
victims.
- NonProfit Gateway
- The NonProfit Gateway is designed as a central starting point to help nonprofit organizations
access online federal information and services. Linked to all Cabinet
Departments and many agencies, it contains information about grants, regulations,
taxes, and other services as well as on a wide range of other topics and
programs.
- OSHA Computerized Information System
- This innovative homepage provides access to
OSHA Compliance Links, Federal Register, Standards & Interpretations. It also
provides information on Safety & Health Regulations for Construction
Operations & Hazards (Technical Links) as well as Ergonomics, Small Business,
and Software Advisors
- PubMed & Grateful Med
- Provide an easy way to search the 11 million references and abstracts in the MEDLINE database;
Use PubMed's retrieval engine to link to over 700 journals for full text
of articles (some publishers may require a subscription) and provide
pre-computed sets of relevant MEDLINE articles;
Offer NLM's Medical Subject Headings for searching; and
Use Loansome Doc for document delivery services (there may be local
charges). PubMed also has links to molecular biology databases of
DNA/protein sequences and 3-D structure data.
Internet Grateful Med also provides access to other NLM databases on AIDS,
bioethics, history of medicine, toxicology, health services research, and
other topics.
- Sector Facility Indexing Project Home Page (SFIP)
- SFIP brings together environmental and
other information from a number of data systems to produce facility-level
profiles for five industry sectors (petroleum refining, iron and steel
production, primary nonferrous metal refining and smelting, pulp
manufacturing, and automobile assembly). SFIP information relates to
compliance and inspection history, chemicalreleases and spills,
demographics of the surrounding population andproduction.

- Most of the substantive information on this site is available only with a password through a Federal Depository. It has two major sections
- INTERNATIONAL
- 1.) GLOBUS (Global Business Opportunities) offers daily trade leads
from the Trade Opportunities Program (TOPS), as well as the Department of
Agriculture. GLOBUS also offers daily procurement activity from the Defense
Logistics Agency, the United Nations, and the Commerce Business Daily leads.
Historical trade leads are available for up to three months. Historical TOPS
leads are provided for up to two years.
- 2a.) NTDB The NTDB (National Trade Data Bank) provides access to
Country Commercial Guides, Market Research reports, Best Market reports. The
NTDB also provides U.S. import and export statistics, as well as over 75 other
various reports and programs.
2b.) The International Trade Library
The International Trade library is a comprehensive collection of over 40,000
documents related to international trade. All are full text searchable, as well
as key word searchable by country or product.
NATIONAL
- The State of the Nation provides various financial and economic
data from throughout the federal government and other related entities. Unlike
the "GLOBUS & NTDB" section, SOTN concerns itself with the United States' domestic
economy. Listed below are the basic areas of interest and examples of the

- The UCR is a city, county, and state law enforcement program which provides a
nationwide view of crime based on the submission of statistics by law enforcement
agencies throughout the country. The selected offenses are 1) Murder and
Nonnegligent Manslaughter, 2) Forcible Rape, 3) Robbery, 4) Aggravated Assault, 5)
Burglary, 6) Larceny-Theft, 7) Motor Vehicle Theft, and 8) Arson. This site also
