"The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) (Turkish: Kuzey Kibris Türk Cumhuriyeti [KKTC]) is a de facto state, which controls the northern third of the island of Cyprus, in the eastern Mediterranean. Turkey is the only country which recognizes the TRNC; all other governments and the United Nations recognizes the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus over the whole island of Cyprus. The Organization of the Islamic Conference however, recognizes the TRNC as a constituent state, under the name Turkish Cypriot State (See United Cyprus Republic)."
