General Collection Strategy

The WashLaw collection strategy is derived from the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights and strives to provide for the information needs of all members of the legal research community. WashLaw does not exclude links to material "because of the origin, background or views of those who contribut[ed] to [its] creation." (ALA Library Bill of Rights, Art. I)

As a research and education oriented site, WashLaw links to diverse and representative points of view on current and historic legal issues. WashLaw does not determine links to materials based on partisan or doctrinal positions.

WashLaw is also a source of information for those interested in law and popular culture.

No attempt is made to evaluate or censor the humor.

Selection/Administration Criteria Notes

  1. The site describes itself as a collection of law jokes or legal humor.
  2. The site has a large number of legal links or jokes.
  3. The site is technologically stable.
  4. Washlaw may attempt to categorize the material, but only to facilitate access.

Editorial Comments

Humor targets the stereotypes of a particular group and might offer a barometer of how that group is viewed by society. The tenor of jokes changes over time and perhaps reflects the peaks and valleys of interest in that group. It is important to be sensitive to and fully aware of the very real public perception of lawyers. We provide these links to alternate views, in the firm belief that members of the legal profession, can and will impact that public perception of the profession.

Disclaimer: The material at the sites to which WashLaw links may or may not violate local community standards. We do not intend to express an opinion about the links. WashLaw strives to be a comprehensive legal research site.
